ID’S PATRICIA DE LILLE ‘CAN’T IMAGINE AN SA WITHOUT DESMOND TUTU’S VOICE’
22 JULY 2010-ID President Patricia de Lille says she ‘cannot imagine a South Africa without Achbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s voice.’
ID President Patricia de Lille says she ‘cannot imagine a South Africa
without Achbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s voice.’
Her comments come after his announcement that he is withdrawing from public life.
‘First of all we wish him well with his retirement. However, I can’t really believe that he is going to retire because at this point in our history South Africa really needs his strong, honest voice,’ Ms De Lille says.
‘So while we wish him a very well-deserved retirement, we also hope that we will continue to speak out on the important challenges we face.
‘What has made Tutu special is the fact that he has always been unafraid to speak his mind and stand for justice, even after 1994, a fearlessness that has often attracted considerable ire from some quarters,’ says De Lille.
She cautioned Tutu ‘to behave himself at home and not give Mama Leah Tutu a hard time because she is now his new Government.’
