ID’S JOE MCGLUWA WANTS SAFA TO STAGE FRIENDLY INTERNATIONAL GAMES AS THANKS TO SA SPECTATORS AFTER THE WORLD CUP
27 JUNE 2010-Joe Mcgluwa, the ID Spokesperson for Sport, has called on the South African Football Association (Safa) to stage international friendly games between Bafana Bafana and other teams, after the 2010 World Cup at various stadiums in all provinces across the country.
Joe Mcgluwa, the ID Spokesperson for Sport, has called on the South
African Football Association (Safa) to stage international friendly
games between Bafana Bafana and other teams, after the 2010 World Cup
at various stadiums in all provinces across the country.
‘Driving through the country from stadium to stadium it has been incredible to see how everybody, from farm workers to farmers, has flown their flags from homes and bakkies, and blown their vuvuzelas with pride. It has also been a pleasant sight to see public viewing areas and fan jols packed to capacity around the country,’ Mr Mcgluwa says.
‘South Africans have rallied behind the boys to the bitter end during their group stage games. To date more than 2 million spectators have attended World Cup games around the country. SAFA will be pocketing a sound profit from this historical event and the very least they can do is make the circle bigger.
‘All this is proof that South Africans support Bafana Bafana and the beautiful game itself. Bafana’s new coach should join SAFA in a proactive campaign to lure international teams back, to play a number of international friendly games against the boys,’ says Mcgluwa.
‘Bafana’s games were only played in two provinces, Gauteng and the Free State. It is for this reason that I believe it would only be fair for those in other provinces to see our team in action. What better way of showing our appreciation for their support than by hosting a number of exciting international friendlies?’
