ID CAPE TOWN SAYS CAPE TOWN’S WORLD CUP DELIVERY WAS ‘A PERFECT SCORE’

‘We have been very impressed with what Cape Town has delivered. Our Fan Walk was a phenomenon on its own and was one of the most exciting experiences,’ Mr Herron says.
‘Our Fan Fest and Fan Jols were superbly organised and were obvious hits with our residents and guests. The City has hosted an efficient and incident-free event and we must commend and thank all those who worked long and hard organising the Cape Town matches and events and then running them on the match days so smoothly.
‘We must also acknowledge the City staff who may not have been involved in the organising of the events, but who played a major role in ensuring their success. The City was kept spotlessly clean,’ says Herron.
‘The CBD, centre road islands, verges near the stadium and near the various public viewing areas were beautifully landscaped. And, despite enormous pressure, our traffic control worked exceptionally well. All of this was made possible by the dedication of many people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
‘Of course, much of Cape Town’s success was due to the wonderful manner in which our residents welcomed the world and joined in the festivities. Capetonians were gracious, warm and enthusiastic hosts and we thank all our residents for their part in the success of this event,’ Herron says.
‘We have shown the country, the continent and the world what a beautiful and special place this City is. Our Multiparty Government will have to work hard to ensure that we maintain that gees, building on the patriotism and loyalty we have all experienced, to take this City to even greater heights, healing divides and ensuring that all our residents will experience tangible benefits from impetus of this event.
‘We must also thank the South African Police Services for their exceptional and professional service to the City during the games. Although the event was an overall resounding success in terms of organisation, we have received reports that some communities felt excluded by the lack of a public viewing area nearby and poor public transport services to get to a viewing area. This is an obvious disappointment to us,’ says Herron.
