ID: “TEAM ZUMA” TARGET FOR 5-MILLION JOBS A PLOY TO SECURE VOTES
19 January 2011 - Independent Democrats Parliamentary Leader and Member of Parliament, Mr JOE MCGLUWA says President Zuma and his team may have bitten off more than they can chew with 5-million job promise...
ID MP Joe Mcgluwa says President Jacob Zuma has his work cut out for him if he intends to reach the 5 million job creation mark by 2021.
The recent announcement that the ruling ANC government is striving toward, is no more than a ploy to secure votes from the unemployed population that is currently estimated at 25.3%.
'Over the past decade, the unemployment rate increased by 300 000 bringing the total of non-economically active people to 4.3-million in the third quarter of 2010.
'The economically active population increased by 538 000 in the same period,' says Mcgluwa.
'In reality, President Zuma and his team will have the task of increasing this total by almost 100%. And judging by the government’s enthusiasm to have eradicated the bucket system that is currently half a decade over its said deadline, it leaves one wondering just how “Team Zuma” plans to go about creating sustainable job opportunities that will reward workers with a wage above the breadline when the current status of service delivery leaves much to be desired,' Mcgluwa says.
